De Call for Papers (CfP) zijn hier met name geplaatst om de leden van de VLG attent te maken op wat er op dit moment aan het front van de wetenschap op ons terrein gebeurt.

- Arbeitskreises für ländliche Hausforschung in Nordwestdeutschland und der Interessengemeinschaft Bauernhaus. Programm der 38. - Rural Societies in Transition (19th to 21st Centuries). Archiv für Sozialgeschichte (Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung), 25 -26 June 2026, Bonn, Germany. Deadline for Applications: 15 January 2026. In recent years, rural societies have become the focus of media coverage. In France, Germany and the Netherlands, farmers have demonstrated against government agricultural policy, falling prices for agricultural products, neglect of infrastructure and ignorance of the needs of rural populations by driving tractor convoys, setting up road blockades and burning tyres. While rural societies were often romanticised as a harmonious alternative to urban life, they often experienced ongoing conflicts and inequalities in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Throughout Europe, rural societies and the lifestyles of people living in the countryside, by the water or in mountainous regions have undergone fundamental changes as a result of modernisation processes in agriculture and constant interaction with urban society and political centres.
Tentoonstellingen
- Getekend: de Natuur is een tentoonstelling in het Centraal Museum Utrecht, van 11/10/2025 tot 29/3/2026. In een tijd waarin onze relatie met de wereld om ons heen steeds brozer lijkt, nodigt Getekend, de Natuur uit om terug te gaan in de tijd. In deze tentoonstelling wandel je door vier eeuwen geschiedenis waarin de relatie van de mens tot de natuur sterk is veranderd.
- Tot 1 maart 2026 is in het Kunstmuseum Den Haag de tentoonstelling Alles gegeven Jacoba van Heemskerck x Marie Tak van Poortvliet te zien. Zij ontmoeten elkaar op jonge leeftijd in Den Haag. Hun ambitie, idealen en persoonlijke relatie – liefdevol, intellectueel en spiritueel – bewegen zich tegen de grenzen van wat begin twintigste eeuw sociaal aanvaardbaar is. De tentoonstelling geeft daarmee ook inzicht in Van Poortvliet als de pionier van de biologisch-dynamische landbouw in Nederland
- Landscape design with an eye for the future. From November 6, 2025, to April 3, 2026, the WUR Library’s Special Collections presents an exhibition on the work of garden and landscape architect Voorhoeve, comparing his designs with a modern design approach for the Oosterbeek region. Landscape architect Samuel Voorhoeve was a passionate advocate for the preservation of the “natural beauty of the landscape.” This vision was reflected in all his designs for estates, parks, and gardens, as well as in his work on villa parks, avenues, and squares. He saw it as his mission to harmoniously integrate cultural elements into the natural landscape that was already there.
- Op 9 december 2025 is Schokland precies 30 jaar UNESCO Werelderfgoed. Ter gelegenheid van dit jubileum openen Museum Schokland en Het Flevo-landschap samen de tentoonstelling Gestolde Tijd, De tentoonstelling is vanaf 10 december 2025 tot april 2026 te bezoeken in Museum Schokland. In Gestolde Tijd staat het erfgoed en de archeologie van Schokland centraal: wat in de bodem bewaard is gebleven, wat tijdens de drooglegging van de Noordoostpolder aan het licht kwam en hoe deze objecten worden bewaard en beschermd, mede dankzij de nieuwe natuur op Werelderfgoed Schokland. De tentoonstelling opent met een introductie over de Werelderfgoedstatus van Schokland, de plek van het voormalige eiland op de wereldkaart en de betekenis van deze internationale erkenning.
- De landbouwwerktuigenverzameling van Jan Kops is opgenomen door het Fries Landbouwmuseum. De collectie vindt haar oorsprong in het Kabinet van Landbouw, opgericht in 1815 in Amsterdam door Jan Kops. Via het inmiddels opgeheven Museum Historische Landbouwtechniek in Wageningen is de verzameling, mede dankzij de bemiddeling van oud-voorzitter prof. J.W. Hofstee, overgedragen aan het museum in Leeuwarden. Een andere, later vervaardigde modellencollectie van Van Brakel van den Eng bevindt zich in Museum Wageningen.
- Tentoonstelling Coöperaties je vindt ze overal. Cera-gebouw, Muntstraat 1, 3000 Leuven. In deze expo van Cera en CAG ontdek je hoe mensen zich vroeger én vandaag verenigen om samen te ondernemen en maatschappelijke uitdagingen aan te pakken.
- Grensverlegger Van Houten – Wereldmerk chocolade uit Weesp. Museum Weesp. Museum Weesp brengt dit succesverhaal in beeld met prachtige kleurrijke affiches, bonbondozen en nog veel meer objecten, vaak vormgegeven door toonaangevende kunstenaars. Met Catalogus. Stagiair gezocht Landbouwmuseum de Kribbe
Stageopdracht Landbouwmuseum de Kribbe. Middenin het IJssellandschap, vlak bij Deventer, staat Museumcafé de Kribbe. Je kunt er meer leren over de geschiedenis van de landbouw. De collectie landbouwvoertuigen van Willy Gooiker, biologisch boer in ruste, staat hier opgesteld. Je kunt zien hoe landbouwapparaten, ontwikkeld tussen 1930 en 1980, de akkerbouw en het boerenleven verregaand veranderd en gemechaniseerd hebben. Het is tijd om dit verhaal beter te gaan vertellen. World Association for the History of Animal Health. Early Career Scholar Award
The World Association for the History of Animal Health holds a biennial competition for early career scholars. This is for the best original essay or research paper on any aspect of the history of animal health and healing, broadly construed.
First Prize: 500 Euro plus budgeted expenses to present the paper at the WAHAH Biennial Congress (2026 Seoul, South Korea); Second Prize: 200 Euro; Third Prize: 100 Euro
Terms and Conditions:
- The competition is open to current students of all educational backgrounds, and to those within 5 years of the award of their PhD or equivalent professional degree (eg DVM, VetMB etc)
- Subjected papers will be accepted either as manuscripts or if published within 2 years of the date of the next congress.
- Papers must not exceed 10.000 words and will be accepted in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch (pdf preferred).
- All submitted papers will be considered by a jury. Personal circumstances permitting, the first prize winner is expected to attend the upcoming congress to present their paper and receive their prize.
How to Apply?
The next competition is now open. The deadline for entries is 31 January 2026. Prize winners will be informed before 28 February 2026 and encouraged to attend the 2022 congress in Seoul (South Korea) 24-26 June 2026. Nieuw Netwerk: The Dutch Colonial Environmental History Network
The Dutch Colonial Environmental History Network is an informal group of scholars and researchers in the Netherlands interested in the environmental history of the Dutch colonial period. This network focuses on the historical interactions between the Dutch and their environment, both in the Netherlands and in its colonial territories, and explores the consequences of these interactions.
Preliminary goal of this network: to inform the network members and share information on colonial population/land use/trade/infrastructure data such as old maps, historical records, archives and such, but also exchange Library or Archive contacts through online repositories, workshops, analysis, reports, etc.
Nieuw blog: Geschiedenis van eten, koken en winkelen
Deze blog wordt bijgehouden door de gerenommeerde voedsel-historici Patricia Van den Eeckhout en Peter Scholliers, beide VUB. Gezien voedsel en landbouw steeds meer samen bestudeerd worden, een blog om in de gaten te houden.
Twee NWO-Veni beurzen voor landbouw en milieu gerelateerd historisch onderzoek
Plagen, Parasieten en Plantages: een soortspecifieke analyse van gekreoliseerde tropische landbouwwetenschap in het Nederlandse koloniale rijk (1880s-1970s)
Dr. L.R.C. Schulte Nordholt, (v), Universiteit Leiden Dit onderzoek bestudeert hoe dierlijke ‘plagen’ de landbouwwetenschap op koloniale plantages beïnvloedden, met een focus op Nederlands-Indië en Suriname. Het onderzoekt “kenniscreolisatie,” het samensmelten van Europese en inheemse methoden om plagen zoals mieren en ratten te bestrijden. Het project analyseert hoe koloniale wetenschappers lokale plaagbestrijdingstechnieken aanpasten en integreerden in de landbouwwetenschap, ondanks dat ze deze vaak afwezen als inferieur. Met gebruik van koloniale bronnen, mondelinge geschiedenis en life-science onderzoek volgt het de ontwikkeling van plaagbeheer van koloniale plantages tot moderne technieken zoals geïntegreerde plaagbestrijding. Door mens-dier-plant-interacties te onderzoeken biedt het nieuwe inzichten in koloniale wetenschap, landbouwpraktijken en milieukennis.
Between field and fora: Non-Western gatekeepers in international environmental policymaking (1960s–1980s)
Dr. Simone Schleper, (v), Maastricht University. Dit project onderzoekt hoe natuurbeschermers uit Azië, Latijns-Amerika, Afrika en Oost-Europa fungeerden als belangrijke intermediairs tussen lokale gemeenschappen en internationale organisaties zoals de VN. Door hun vaak over het hoofd geziene rol te bestuderen, draagt het project bij aan zowel historisch begrip als aan de huidige discussies over het integreren van inheemse kennis in milieubeleid.

Nieuw onderzoek
SNSF project “Feeding the Earth: Synthetic Fertilizers and the Remaking of Agriculture in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries”. University of Basel, Switzerland and University of Birmingham, UK. The project “Feeding the Earth” enquires into the spread of synthetic fertilizers and the ways in which it transformed agriculture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The use of synthetic fertilizers exploded over the twentieth century, boosting yields while fostering dependencies, land concentration, soil degradation, and water pollution. Despite their lack of sustainability and resistance from some farmers, synthetic fertilizers continue to dominate agriculture worldwide. As climate change, soil loss, and pollution compel a rethinking of food systems, this research project asks how societies in the past switched between different fertilizing regimes and adapted to changing conditions of agricultural productions. The project investigates the uneven transition from traditional to synthetic fertilizers in northern Europe, South Africa, Turkey, and Morocco, addressing the largely understudied global history of fertilizer adoption.
